Europe’s First Underwater Restaurant To Open In Norway

A Norwegian architecture firm is making a plan to construct Europe’s first underwater restaurant. According to the official website of the firm, Restaurant has three-level construction along with a wide view of the sea floor in southern Norway. It will also function as a research center for marine life, is a accolade to the Norwegian coast and to Lindesnes.
Norway’s restaurant named ‘Under’ has a double meaning to it because in Norwegian, “under” can also be used as ‘wonder’.

According to a structure design which is made by Norwegian Architectures, it rests on the sea bed five metres below the water’s surface, is built with metre-thick concrete walls to withstand pressure and shock from the rugged sea conditions. The apertures of the building are designed like a sunken periscope and have massive windows present a magnificent view of the seabed.

The firm, through its architecture, menu and mission aims to provide information to the public about the biodiversity of the sea and expose them to inspiring water experience, both ‘physical and intellectual’.

80 guests can seat in the restaurant building, will also have informational plaques to guide the guests to the restaurant entrance at the water’s edge. All throughout the path, a narrative of the site will be given to the visitors including information about marine life and more.
