The age of average human being is 71 years. Many factors determine age like diet, exercise, geography, socioeconomic factors and mental health etc. It is almost the case that those who live in a developed country and do exercise regularly will live longer.

But the world’s oldest person Emma Morano, born in the 1800’s has just passed away.

She was born on November 29, 1899 and passed away on April 15, 2017. She was 117 years old at her time of death. She lived a life spanning a total of three centuries.

According to news articles, Emma passed away peacefully in her sleep in the Northern Italian town of Verbania.


In an interview, Dr. Carlo Bava said: ‘she died while sitting in a rocking chair in her home. She didn’t suffer. I’m happy she didn’t suffer but passed away that way, tranquillity.”

She was the oldest of her eight siblings. According to Dr. Bava, one of her sisters lived to be 102 years.

Emma was worked in kitchen at a boarding school and also at a  jute factory. She retired at the age 75 years more than 40 years ago.

In that interview, she said: ‘For breakfast, I eat biscuits with milk or water, then during the day I eat two eggs—one raw and one cooked—just like the doctor recommended when I was 20 years old.’

She also said, ‘I’ll eat pasta and minced meat then for dinner, I’ll have just a glass of milk.”
She always took a sufficient rest and got a healthy dose of sleep nearly 11 hours per night.

Dr. Bava said that he received the sad news from her caretaker and said that her longevity was mostly due to ‘genetics.’ He continued on by stating: ‘from a strictly medical and scientific point of view, she can be considered a phenomenon.’
